Regional Pilot Training West
EU Preparedness training course on Policy and Governance: Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPR) planning, The Hague, The Netherlands, from 11-13 November 2024.
About the course
This course focuses on the process of development and review of harmonized PPR policies, ensuring coherence across sectors and borders. Emphasizing leadership in multi-disciplinary and multi-level coordination, the course prepares participants to lead cross-border PPR processes focused on continuous im-provement. With a strong emphasis on evidence-based decision-making, participants will learn to identify needs, prioritize actions, and evaluate PPR plans for effective, targeted decision-making, ultimately strengthening national and regional preparedness efforts. On day one afternoon participants will be welcomed with a dinner reception. Days two and three will focus on an interactive training program and case studies that cover policy design and development, leadership skills for effective coordination of PPR planning and research and evidence-based PPR planning. Topics will be discussed through practical applications, examples and evidence from case studies and scenarios using different types of hazards. The interactive nature of the course will require active participation from the participants.
Participants
This course is recommended to mid- and high-level managers, policy-makers, public health professionals and technical experts at national and sub-national levels from multiple sectors involved in developing policies and operational plans at national and sub-national level, health officials of different departments within ministries and public health institutes, national focal points responsible for international health regulations or other PPR planning activities, public health legal advisors, public health agency leaders involved in the development of strategies, policies and recommendations in the area of PPR.
This Regional Pilot course will welcome participants from all EU and EEA countries, with a special focus on The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, and Ireland.
Trainers
Barend Gerretsen, an experienced public health expert and facilitator with over 20 years of experience in health systems strengthening and capacity building, working with diverse partners and stakeholders in Europe and globally. Currently Barend is an interim deputy director of the training institute International Health and Tropical Medicine and a member of the Supervisory Board of AMREF Flying Doctors and EKANN, an expert center for children and adolescents who are new in the Netherlands.
Clara Egger is an Assistant Professor of Global Governance at the Department of Public Administration and Sociology within the Erasmus School of Behavioural and Social Sciences at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her research focuses on the political economy of transboundary crises (transnational terrorism, public health emergencies, climate-induced disasters) and crisis-management policies, with a particular interest in building global resilience to both current and future crises. She is also a member of the Pandemic and Disaster Preparedness Center where she leads several research studies.
Raul Magni-Berton is a Professor of political scientist and lecturere with a distinguished career in political theory and democratic reforms. He is currently teaching at the European School of Political and Social Sciences (ESPOL) at the Catholic University of Lille. Magni-Berton is a leading figure in the promotion of direct democracy and the principle of subsidiarity in France.
