About the course

The Emergency Operations and Response training course brings together key aspects of emergency preparedness, planning, and response at both national and cross-border levels. It equips participants with the essential skills to manage health-related emergencies and disasters effectively. Emphasising harmonised, evidence-based approaches, the course focuses on developing and implementing prevention, preparedness, and response (PPR) plans that operate across sectors and borders.

Participants will explore cross-border collaboration strategies, including international agreements, regional coordination mechanisms, and bilateral and local frameworks. The course highlights multi-sectoral and cross-border coordination enhancing risk assessment, action prioritisation, and evaluation of PPR efforts, ultimately strengthening national and regional preparedness.

Through interactive workshops, scenario-based exercises, and real-world case studies—including lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic—participants will engage in hands-on learning. They will develop practical skills to contribute to PPR activities, establish effective coordination and communication mechanisms, and design comprehensive PPR agreements, while fostering trust and building sustainable partnerships.

Participants

This course is designed for policymakers, public health professionals, and disaster management experts, equipping them with the skills to lead multi-sectoral and cross-border PPR initiatives. By the end of the course, participants will be well-prepared to strengthen collaboration and reinforce preparedness systems, ensuring effective and resilient emergency and disaster response capacities.
