About the course
This training course is designed to enhance participants’ competencies in prevention, preparedness and response (PPR) processes by fostering discussions on Heat Health Action Plans (HHAPs) and response strategies. Through interactive tabletop exercises (TTX) and facilitated group activities, participants will exchange knowledge, perspectives and best practices for managing heatwaves and compound health threats. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to contribute meaningfully to the development or improvement of HHAPs in their respective countries.
The training combines scene-setting presentations with a scenario-based TTX, structured in multiple phases, from early warnings to recovery efforts, where participants will engage with realistic challenges and collaboratively explore practical solutions. The training concludes with a structured evaluation session to consolidate lessons learned and formulate recommendations for strengthening preparedness and response systems.
Key competencies targeted include:
-
Emergency decision-making under stress
-
Managing compound crises
-
Cross-sectoral coordination
-
Vulnerability analysis
-
Effective crisis communication
Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to:
-
Assess and prioritise resource needs effectively
-
Set emergency thresholds
-
Manage infodemics during public threats to health.
Participants
This training is specifically recommended for public health professionals with advanced expertise who aim to strengthen their capacities in prevention, preparedness and response (PPR) processes. It is intended for participants with prior knowledge and experience in key areas such as policy and governance, emergency operations preparedness and response, risk communication, information management, and human resource planning and capacity building. This tabletop exercise is designed for those looking to consolidate and apply their skills in a practical, scenario-based environment.
