About the course

In today’s interconnected world, effectively managing infodemics is more crucial than ever, especially during complex crises when misinformation can deepen vulnerabilities and erode trust. This training course enhances participants’ competence in a number of areas, including integrating infodemic management into national preparedness, prevention and response (PPR) plans and equipping participants with the knowledge and strategic tools to strengthen institutional PPR mechanisms.

This two-day course explores the essential role of Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) and Infodemic Management (IM) in health emergency preparedness and response. It highlights how RCCE and IM work together to build trust in public health interventions and introduces key IM concepts. Participants will examine the health information environment, the role of IM during crises, and practical approaches such as social listening, community feedback tools, and strategies to address misinformation, disinformation, and harmful narratives.

At the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what an infodemic is and the impact it can have on the mitigation of public health PPR threats.
  • Identify opportunities to jointly plan for infodemic management activities and coordination mechanisms in cross-border activities
  • Examine how to identify, evaluate and mitigate risks associated with mis and disinformation.
  • Understand how to collect and use infodemic insights and data in relation to emergency preparedness and response.

The above outcomes ensure that the infodemic management course remains a cutting-edge, impactful training programme that fosters resilience, collaboration and real-world application of infodemic management strategies.

Participants

This training course invites participants from EU Member States, Lichtenstein, Norway, Iceland, and international organisations engaged in emergency preparedness and response across the European region. It is designed for mid- to senior-level public managers, health professionals, and officials working at national or sub-national levels who play a role in developing and implementing emergency preparedness and response plans.

The course is particularly beneficial for professionals involved in managing communication and information during public health emergencies, with a focus on cross-border collaboration and coordination. Participants will gain valuable insights and skills to strengthen infodemic management strategies/activities and their alignment to national emergency preparedness and response efforts.
